Want a New Kitchen? Just Paint.

My client's kitchen was already a very lovely space with beautiful espresso stained cabinetry reaching all the way up to it's 10 foot ceilings, and topped with decorative glass cabinets and substantial moldings. But with all that deep colored wood and not very much natural light, the kitchen felt heavy, and all of it's cool architectural features were lost against a dark background.

My clients were ready to make a change for a much lighter and updated look with some farmhouse charm, so painting the cabinets a soft white was a no brainer. It took a little bit to find the perfect white due to the low lighting, but in the end we chose Sherwin William's Natural Choice, and after seeing the results, it was like the clue was in the name. I felt like the hood and range would make an amazing stand alone piece,  so we decided on a rich, deep gray called Urbane Bronze (SW), to help show off those under appreciated features. We used Urbane on the island too, in order to tie it all together.

The transformation is amazing....

It doesn't even feel like the same kitchen!

All those pretty moldings and decorative accents are front and center, instead of muddled together in a dark space.

Along with painting the cabinets, the walls were painted a warm gray called Mindful Gray (SW), and new lighting went over the island and bar. I can't take credit for the awesome lighting though.  My client's husband discovered a new love for picking out lighting, and actually has a really good eye for it! We fondly refer to him now as the "Lighting Specialist". He did a really great job mixing materials and style.

 Timeless classic.

During the design process I noticed the subtle hints of gray in the backsplash, so with careful paint color selection, we were able to keep the same backsplash and counter tops, and still create a dramatic and gorgeous change. I was super happy to see how painting the hood Urbane Bronze pulled those gray tones out, and married everything together so nicely.

I couldn't be happier with how this project turned out. I love that this kitchen is now a place that feels like sunshine is pouring in whether it's morning or night, rain or shine. I seriously have total kitchen envy! I would love to cook and entertain here. It's so happy and bright, a total show stopper now, and it all started with some paint.

Until next time!
